How Barchan and Muskeg ever became mates is a bizarre enigma, she was once a mercenary in the war of the three sisters. When Gypsum (previously Quagmire) came along Barchan was fairly indifferent to the dragonet, and as he developed a little more she loathed that he was less SandWing-like than she expected and so tried to kill him by throwing him in a tar-pit.
